Posted: Friday, December 6, 2008
The Lee’s Summit Police Department is currently accepting applications for the
spring 2009 Citizen’s Police Academy. The Academy provides information about
the daily operation of the police department and increases rapport with the public
to better inform or dispel any misinformation through an educational process.
The course is a 10-week, thirty-hour program that will meet on Tuesday evenings
from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Classes will begin on March 3, 2009 and run through
May 5, 2009. Lee’s Summit Police Officers and employees provide the instruction.
This program allows Police Officers and Lee’s Summit citizens to interact and
exchange ideas about making our community safer.
Topics that are taught include Patrol Tactics,
Bomb Disposal, Emergency Services Squad, Drug, Criminal and Juvenile
Investigations, Traffic and DWI Enforcement, Criminal Law, K-9 unit,
Firearms and situational training.
Completion of this program DOES NOT certify
a citizen as a Police Officer or a Reserve Officer. Participants
must be at least 18 years of age and a resident or business owner
in Lee’s Summit. Applicants will be screened for acceptability and
a criminal history check will be completed. A felony arrest will
automatically disqualify an applicant. There is no fee for the course.
Applications are available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to
10:00 p.m. at the police department front desk. For additional information
you may contact the Public Information Office at (816) 969-1707.
Application deadline is Friday January 30, 2009. |
