March
Madness – Easter Egg Style
Posted: Sunday, April

On Sunday, March 30, Monarch View Easter Bunny apprentices
hid about 3,000 eggs, in plain sight, filled with candy or
prize numbers. The park and pool area were filled with spring
color – then the kids arrived. A lunch of sandwiches, chips,
and best of all, cookies was served first. This was just to
help build the anticipation. The playground was swarming with
kids as they eyed the eggs on the ground. One anxious toddler
asked, “Now?” “Not yet, sweetie”, was the unfortunate reply.
After lunch, Jeremy Flowers, our
Activities Director, called everyone together. The kids were
divided into three groups, 0-5 years of age, 6-10, and 11
and older, and sent to their area to gather up as many eggs
as they could find. The 6-10 group, our largest group, was
divided into two smaller groups and started at either end
of their section. Jeremy never really got a chance to say,
“Ready, set, go!”, it just sort of happened.
The hunt was over pretty quickly.
The grounds, trees, and bushes were picked clean. Once the
kids had figured out there were no more to be found, they
sat down and emptied the eggs and took a count. Eggs included
candy and special prize numbers to be redeemed later. Each
age group was gathered and checked to see who had collected
the most, or the least, number of eggs. Those kids, also,
were awarded prizes. Overall, everyone went home with lots
of candy or prizes.
As always, these events wouldn't
be possible without the help of neighborhood volunteers.
Thanks to all that put on their virtual bunny ears and pitched
in!
